DETROIT - The Wayne State University baseball team (32-16) tied the school record for victories in a season with a 7-3 triumph over Saginaw Valley (31-17) in an elimination game Friday afternoon at the WSU Baseball Field.

The Cardinals struck first with two outs in the bottom of the second as Dale Mardsen singled and Justin Hanning was hit by a pitch. A single by Justin Doughty plated the first run of the game.

The Warriors battled back scoring three times in the top of the third. Jason Chapieski had a leadoff single and stole second. A Bobby Marten single through the right side scored Chapieski with the tying run. Following a double play, Jon Weisman singled and Adwin Springer then singled to center with both runners advancing an extra base on a SVSU error. Matt Cunningham's double down the left field line scored both runners.

The next inning Adam Schulz had a leadoff double and moved to third on Kurt Kieleszewski's sacrifice bunt. After a walk to Chapieski, Marten's fielder's choice plated Schulz with WSU's fourth run.

Neither team scored the next two innings, but Wayne State put up a three-spot in the seventh. Frank Jeney had a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Springer single. Jeney scored on a failed pickoff attempt of Springer. With two outs, Kevin Kadrofske hit his fourth home run of the season.

The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on back-to-back doubles by Jason Burghardt and Mike Crawford and an RBI single by Brandon Fanion.

Warrior freshman Ryan Mosher improved to 8-3 overall by tossing his sixth complete game of the campaign. He only allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out one.

SVSU starter Scott Roy took the loss to fall to 5-3. Roy went the first seven innings allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs. He struck out four and walked six.

Eight WSU starters had at least one hit, while Jeney went 0-for-1 with three walks. Kadrofske led the Warriors with three hits. Burghardt had two hits to lead the Cardinals.
