Baseball Lands 14 On GLIAC All-Academic Team

DETROIT - The Wayne State University baseball team had 14 student-athletes selected to the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

Among the Warriors selected were redshirt seniors Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea), Tim George (Quincy, Mich.) and Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.); senior Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.); redshirt juniors Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer); junior Dane Little (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan Catholic); redshirt sophomores Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) and John Skaggs (Adrian, Mich.); sophomores Brady Cooper (Allen Park, Mich.), Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.), Tyler Hill (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael's), and Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova); and redshirt freshman Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland).

Cunningham is a four-time honoree, while Ranck was honored for the third time. Little, Martin, Mazur, and Skaggs each earned their second academic awards, with George and Hill collecting their first. Churchward, Cooper, Dalman, LaPensee, Wiseman, and Witczak were all in their first year of eligibility for consideration.

To qualify for GLIAC All-Academic status a student athlete must have: a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
