DETROIT - Several Wayne State University baseball student-athletes were listed among the top 500 statistical leaders following the conclusion of the 2008 baseball season, including several in the top 100.
Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) was 22nd in stolen bases (29), 24th in steals per game (0.55), and 85th in triples (4).
Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) finished 67th in batting average (.409) and, along with Williams, was 84th in sacrifice bunts (8).
Charlie Dunneback (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) finished 38th in sacrifice bunts (10) and 39th in bunts per game (0.20).
Padres draftee Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) ranked in the top 25 in five different categories. He was 14th in wins (10), 16th in strikeouts (100) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.5), 20th in ERA (2.10), and 23rd in hits allowed per nine innings (6.72). He also wound up 85th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.10).
As a team, Wayne State finished in the top 100 among the 223 reporting Division II schools in 16 of the 25 NCAA statistical categories.
